What a Week!

We had an exciting week last week!  We started the week off with a field trip!  Thanks to an anonymous donor, we were able to see Harold and the Purple Crayon performed live at Sangamon Auditorium!  After the show, we took advantage of the beautiful fall weather and had a picnic lunch and played at Rotary Park.

This week was also Fire Safety Week.  On Thursday, the fire department came out to teach us about their equipment and how to keep ourselves safe in the case of a fire.

It is very important to know your phone number and address.  If there is ever a fire or emergency at your house, you need to be able to tell these things to the 911 dispatcher so he/she can send help!  We had a special challenge this week. Students who know their phone number and address were crowned "Junior Firefighters" and received a special sticker and coloring book to commemorate their accomplishment.

Congratulations to our Junior Firefighters:

Our First Official Performance

This week, our reading story was The Strongest One by Joseph Bruchac.  This is a play about a little ant who goes out into the world to find what creature is the strongest of all.  He learns a great lesson!  We practiced the story all week and put on a great performance!

(Crank the volume - it's pretty quiet)

Grandparent's Day

Thank you to all of the grandparents who made it out for our special celebration!  It was a great afternoon for everyone!  The students showed their grandparents our classroom and the special cards they made.  Then, we headed off to the cafeteria for snacks and a story!

What a Whirlwind!

The beginning of the year is so crazy!  Or, as the students like to say, it's CHAOS!  The students had so many new routines and rules to learn - and I had so many new personalities to learn!  I'm happy to report that we've hit the ground running in second grade!

Mrs. Wills was able to get each grade level a really cool Flip video recorder!  So check back soon for new pictures and videos of us in action!  We have some really cool stuff coming up!
