Even More Squiggle Writing

Madelyn M.
Once upon a time there was a girl.  Her name was Lenny.  Lenny never liked herself because she had a giant nose, braces that never matched her clothes.  Lenny wanted to change, so one day Lenny hung upside down in a tree.  Lenny thought and thought.  Then Lenny finally came up with an idea.  She was going to shrink her nose.  Lenny had no clue how to shrink her nose.  Then she did it somehow.  The end.

Alex G.
Once upon a time there was a girl named McKenna.  She lost her hat.  It is big and colorful.  It has a heart.  On top of the hat there is a loop.  The end.

Cayden S.
I made my squiggle line a kangaroo.  With a head of a snake and he has a tail of a whale.  His name is JoHole.  He likes to eat rats.  And he likes to hop a lot.  I love my design.

More Squiggle Writing

Makensie C.
I bought a necklace at the store.  It was my favorite necklace.  It had a pattern that was blue and orange.  It had a peace sign at the end.  I wore it every day to school.  My teacher loved it.  We had a necklace contest.  It was about which one was the prettiest necklace.  The judge said you are the winner.  I was so happy!  I ran home and told my mom.  She was proud of me.  I really like my necklace.

Breyanna L.
This is Fred.  He's a roller coaster.  He can go up to 101 or 200 miles.  Fred is fun.  He works at a water park.  He is so fst that the children throw up after the ride.  Fred's a fast roller coaster.

Earth Day Projects

Last Friday was Earth Day!  To celebrate the day, we talked about different ways we can help protect and clean up the earth.  We talked about the three R's:  reduce, reuse, and recycle.  To prove their point, the students worked hard on projects at home.  They made something new out of something old.  Check out our creative projects!

Breyanna's scrap paper sun

Alex's soda can wind chime

Dain's shoebox and cracker box catapult
(It really works!  He shot a ball so far it hit the ceiling!)

Hunter's soda can bat

Connor's egg carton planters
(He brought one for all of us to keep!)

Connor's paper-towel-tube-and-chicken-lid bird feeder

Bailey's aluminum can pencil cup

Madelyn's coffee can bank

Ethan's egg carton rock collection holder

Faith's cereal box magazine holder

Squiggle Writing

Squiggle writing is a center activity this week.  Students take a squiggle and turn it into a picture.  They then write a story inspired by the picture.  This activity stretches our imagination!  Check here for some of the most creative stories!

Author and Illustrator:  Connor S.

Once there was a dragon named Henry.  Henry lived in a dark, dark cave in the middle of Camelot.  Someone once was brave enough to go in the cave, with an army of one hundred knights.  When the army came in the cave Henry blew burning hot fire at the army.  The army was never seen again, but Henry became the king of the world.  The end.

Author and Illustrator:  Dain R.

I turned my squiggle line into a roller coaster.  Its name is Lightning Loopty Loops.  It has a lot of loopty loops.  It was designed by Dain R.  It is so big that it takes two roller coasters at a time!  Each roller coaster holds eight people.  It goes as fast as lightning.  I love it!

Scholastic Book Fair

The PTA put on a very successful Book Fair last week!  They decided to use the proceeds to give teachers new books for their classrooms.  Thanks to your generosity, we were able to get 31 new books for our classroom!  Thank you so much for coming out and supporting New Berlin Elementary and the PTA!

A special thank-you goes to Levi, Madelyn, and Connor B., for using their own money to purchase a book for our classroom!  Levi provided us with Chicks vs. Bunnies, Madelyn gave us Lola and Tiva:  An Unlikely Friendship, and Connor purchased One Smart Cookie.  Thank you very much for providing us with quality books for our classroom library!

Just look at this huge stack of new books!

March Homework Hall of Fame

Sadly, we had a very small Homework Lunch Club last Friday :(  Four students completed all homework assignments for the month of March.

Super-duper Congratulations to Levi, Connor S., Faith, and Ethan!
Keep up the excellent work!

Faith has a special request for the girls in the class:  She's tired of eating with the boys!  Get that homework done!
