Are you ready for a ROCKIN' year?

It's the most exciting time of year:  the start of a new school year!  I had a fun and relaxing summer, but I am ready to meet my new second graders!  We will have so many fun adventures on our Second Grade Tour this year, and I can't wait to share them with my 20 students!

All of the teachers at New Berlin Elementary have been working hard in their classrooms to get them ready for August 24th!  Please check back really soon for some Sneak Peek pictures!

If you have any questions prior to the school year, please e-mail me at sjackson@cusd16.k12.il.us!

Thank You for a Wonderful Year!

I really truly enjoyed teaching and learning with all of my students this year!  You are a wonderful group of kids!  I know you will be very successful in the future - remember, if you put your mind to it, you can do it!

I'll leave you with some pictures of our field day.  The second and third graders all had a lot of fun, despite the blazing sun!

Have a great summer!  See you in August!

Career Day

Last Friday, we welcomed community members to our school to teach us about their jobs.  We learned about a variety of different jobs.

Mr. Poole taught us about being an air traffic controller.

Mr. Jackson taught us about being a mechanic.

Dr. Buskirk taught us about being a dentist.

The Sangamon County Rescue Squad and their dogs taught us about rescuing people.

Officer Howell taught us about being a state trooper and car safety.

Next time you see them, ask our students what they learned last Friday.  See if they are interested in any of the jobs we learned about!

It's been a busy two weeks!

A lot of exciting things have been happening in second grade!  In the past week, we've had our spring music concert, a field trip, and April's homework club!

Everyone looked so nice and sang so beautifully during the spring concert!

We had a picnic at Centennial Park, then we headed to AMC Showplace 12 to watch African Cats.

Our goofy April homework club members:  Faith, Adam, Dain, and Levi.

Check back in a few days for pictures from Career Day!

One Last Batch...

I am so impressed with the students' squiggle writing!  There are a lot of creative kids in our class!  Here is one last batch!

Levi C.
Marty the elephant lost his family.  Now Marty has to find his own place to live.  The zookeeper finds Marty and takes him to the zoo.  Now Marty is safe with his new family.

Faith N.
I drew an octopus.  His name is Orange.  He lives in a dark ship under the ocean.  Everyone is scared of Orange.  One day Orange was crying because he was lonely.  Then a fish swam by and he noticed the octopus.  Why are you crying asked the fish.  The octopus said because I am lonely and have no friends.  I will be your friend, said the fish.  Still he was sad.  Then the fish told everyone the octopus is not mean.  Everyone surrounded octopus and said they're sorry for thinking he was mean.  Now everyone is Orange's friend.  The end.

Anna Z.
Once there was a dragon named Lilly.  Lilly loved to eat.  She lived at a town named Bodcity.  She wasn't paying attention to the teacher.  Lilly had detention.  She didn't come to detention.  The principal was mad!  The principal said if you come to detention, you will get a treat.  Lilly lived happily ever after.
