Have a great summer!

It has been an awesome year! Thank you for all of your support, guidance, and work this year! I truly enjoyed teaching the 18 vibrant second graders in my class! I will miss each and every student. I hope you have a great and safe summer vacation! If there is anything I can do for you, your student, or your family, please send me an email! See you in August as third graders!

Career Day

Last Friday was NBE's annual Career Day.  We invite people from a variety of careers to come talk to the students.  Students have the chance to learn about a job they may have never head about before and also think about their future career paths (it's never too early!).  A big thanks goes out to the 2nd and 3rd grade presenters!  We had a great day.

Mr. Dean taught us about being a horse trainer!  Kylie and Macie were very interested in this one!

Mr. Malloy taught us about being a police officer.  Grace helped :)

Ms. Kopid led us in Zumba and taught us about being a fitness instructor.

Mrs. Williams (using Brooklyn as her patient) taught us what nurse anesthetists do.

Field Trip

Last Friday, we went on our first trip out of school!  Animals is a huge science and literary unit for second graders, so we capped off our year of learning with a trip to see Chimpanzees at AMC Showplace 12!  Before the show, we stopped at Centennial Park to play and for a picnic lunch.  It was a cool, breezy morning, but I don't think the students minded!  I tried to get pictures, but I couldn't get anyone to stand still long enough!

When everyone was too hungry to play anymore, I was able to snap this one!

The reviews are in and the movie is a blockbuster!  Our favorite moments were when baby Oscar was adopted by the group's male leader and when Oscar's group defeated Scar's enemy group to reclaim their territory!

Rainbow fish

A boat (that really floats!)

Pencil cup

iPads

CUSD 16 was fortunate to re eve a grant to upgrade our technology in all 3 schools! At the elementary school, we teamed up by hallway and made a technology "wish list.". As a result, we now have 5 iPads at our disposal! We will share these iPads with our third grade friends across the hall, so we will have access to them approximately every other day. To start, we had an iPad tutorial today and learned how to operate our new devices. We also talked about usage and safety. These expectations were established: 1. Treat the iPads carefully. 2. Use only the apps you were told you could use. 3. Stay in one place. 4. Keep the iPad on a flat surface. Students know that if they fail to meet these expectations they will lose the privilege of using iPads. Come back soon to see posts about how we're using our new technology!
